Greyhounds Make Great Pets Too

This page is dedicated to the holder of my heart......My Barney,

(not quite the knight in shining armour I was expecting,

infact he arrived in the back of a Volkswagon Golf

instead of on the great white horse from my dreams !!!)

Huge thanks to Sarah (Clare Animal Welfare) for rescuing and bringing him

to the kennels on that cold dark night in November 2005.

Little did either of us realise as we brought him through the gates

that we were in fact introducing him to his new home :o)))

We all know that greyhounds can run at great speeds

but there are very few who know that they also make great pets.

They do not require huge exercise as one would expect

nor do they have big appetites and in the majority of cases

they are much more mannerly and calm than

the “normal dog breeds” that people choose to bring into their lives.

A huge amount of greyhounds never make the grade for racing

and many more are retired due to injuries, lack of speed/interest and/or age.

Whatever your circumstances there is a greyhound awaiting your call that will suit your lifestyle.

If you have any doubts or queries about living with a greyhound

your local rescue will help you and/or give you the contact details of someone else who can.

It is also normally possible to speak to people who have already adopted one

so that you can hear their experiences first hand.

“Greyhound lovers all over the world are a circle of friends...

there is no beginning and there will never be an end”

There are many rescues around Ireland that rescue and rehome greyhounds,

therefore there is always a wide variety of these deities available for adoption.

Have a look at the greyhound section on Irish Animals’ website to see some

of the beauties that are patiently awaiting your call :o))

Update November 2007

Don’t Say You Were Not Warned :-

The problem with allowing a greyhound

into your heart and home is that you soon realise that

“just one” is never enough .............. officially introducing Rosie,

the second greyhound to become a permanent part of our family :o)))
