20/8/10 - Do You Like Horses .... Have You Got Animal Loving Friends ???
It Would Mean So Much To Us & Our Equines If You Would Be One of Five Hundred
“Hell’s Bells” ... the past 8mths have seen us go from “The Big Freeze” to “The Thaw” to “The Drought” ....
These weather conditions, and possibly on account of our land being ‘organic’ so to speak as we do not spread fertiliser on any of it, our three ‘intended’ hay meadows have not responded at all well ..... one of them is about to be changed to ‘strip grazing’ due to it’s lack of quality and progress and the remaining two could possibly follow suit unless a miracle occurs before October as there is not the same amount of growth at this time of the year for them to catch up so we are starting our ‘Winter Forage Fundraising’ early this year in an effort to buy in approximately 500 square bales of hay to start filling the barn whilst the prices are reasonable thanks to the harvests that some farmers were able to save due to their hay being ready for harvesting (unlike ours) when the weather was dry.
 |
Last Winter we went through just over 400 square bales of our own hay and bought in 25 round bales of haylage at the cost of €45.00 each delivered (each round bale of haylage would be equal to approx 12 square bales of hay) .... we do not even want to estimate how many bags of ration, etc we went through.
From looking at various adverts the current prices are averaging €3.50 to €4.00 per square bale delivered so when you think about it (without multiplying it by the amount we need) it is not a lot of money if you were to ask all your friends if they would be willing to give €4.00 each towards feeding a rescue equine for the winter.
Of course instead of sending us money you can if you wish organise the collection/delivery of some suitable hay bales for horses yourself so that you can ensure that is what the money will be spent on or maybe you got a good crop yourself and would like to ‘share’ some of them with us ...... whatever method suits you we don’t mind so long as we can start filling our empty barn in preparation for Winter 2010/2011
It goes without saying that people are also free to donate wrapped bales of haylage too should they wish ...
Other ideas that might boost our appeal will be added as we go along or perhaps you have a suggestion that may be beneficial to our gang.
