Delboy - Awaiting Funds For Gelding Under Gas Due To Bad Anaesthetic Reaction

del14-6-11Del is one of the many ‘unwanteds’ who arrived into our care over the past 12mths. From his swollen rear hocks baring hobble wounds and harness marks along his sides it was not difficult to know he had been used as a trotter and so due to this and also his love for ‘the girls’ we chose to name him after Delboy Trotter from Only Fools & Horses :)

Soon after his arrival we discovered that he was a rig (only one testicle dropped) so when he had sufficient weight on he was brought to our vets to get the more complicated procedure done but unfortunately he had a bad reaction to the anaesthetic and had to be brought out of the sedation before the operation was complete.

Delboy will now have to be operated on under gas which is only available at a few veterinary facilities around the country and costs in the region of €600.00 ..... on account of this high cost we have not yet had the opportunity have it done but we hope to be able to rectify this in March/April thanks to Louise in West Clare’s efforts selling donated tack, etc to raise the funds necessary for the procedure :) :)

In light of preparing Del for rehoming, following his operation, it is intended to start doing some work on rebacking him for riding ......... watch this space as 2012 will surely be Del’s year of all things new & exciting :)

Ringo - Ready For Adoption

ringo14-6-11Ringo (as in Ringo Star!!) is a handsome gelding who will turn 2yrs old on the 21st of May.

Obviously it is hard to know exactly what height he will finish at but as he is currently nearing 14h and his mother was 14’2 we feel his dad must have been in the 15h range as it is looking most likely he will pass out mum’s height.

As far as Ringo is concerned humans have been put on this earth for nothing else but to look after him ;o))  He loves getting groomed and being scratched or just being fussed over in general ... Oh and yes he knows he is good looking ;))

Ringo should make a nice gelding for riding.

Star - On-going Veterinary Care

starwalk14-6-11Star arrived into our care in September 2009 and despite showing good initial signs of recovery she is still undergoing treatment due to the lack of condition and muscle she maintains.

A gentle girl who is only 4yrs old, she deserves every chance in the world to be a happy, carefree, healthy equine ...... we will continue doing our best for her and ensure she gets the very best of anything she needs ...

Rocky - Gone From Being Known As ”The Orphan” To Being Called “My 2nd Son”

rockylft13-5-11Rocky, born 18th May 2010, is better known as “the orphan” as his mother, Polly, died before he was 2 days old ... see our news/event page for the story

A real fighter and full of mischief and he is getting all his equine education lessons from Nanny May. At only a few days old he had to go through the uncomfortable procedure of circumcision but thankfully he has recovered well and so far it seems to have been successful.

UPDATE 20/8/10 - Rocky is doing well and has gotten much stronger. Himself and his brother, Hobo, have bonded well and insist on eating out of the same feeder at meal times ;o))

UPDATE May 2011 - Rocky has found his growth cells and sprouted up over the past few weeks ...... he is now a gelding after a visit from the vet on the 26th of May

UPDATE ON ROCKY JAN 2012 - Time to face ‘the truth’, having been born & reared here Rocky is like one of my children (bold but loving!!!) and just like them, despite my threats, I could never rehome him. So Rocky will stay at Armargos (no big surprise announcement to many) and will hopefully continue to grow & thrive ... it is also my intention to perhaps bring him to some agricultural shows as “Armargos Mascot” .....

Anna - Ready For Adoption

anna14-6-11

Anna is a very pretty 14’2 approx 8yr old mare who is looking for a very understanding patient loving owner who will continue working with her to further her trust in humans.

We do not know if she has ever been trained for riding but physically there is no reason why she could not be trained following lots of hands on learning and groundwork.

Anna is a true matriarch and so would also be a good herd leader/companion. She is a very easy keeper who puts on weight at the mere sight of food !!  Her photos may give the impression that she is a cob type but she is not.

If you have space in your heart & home to offer Anna than contact us for further information.

Sky - Not Quite Ready For Adoption Yet

skynewrug7-1-12

Sky came to us in very bad condition in January 2011 at an approx age of only 7mths.

She will only be 2yrs old this summer so still has lots to learn and lots of time for learning it.  Sky is currently around 14h but because she was ‘dumped’ we have no idea what her mam or dad were so we can only guess at what height she will finish at.

Sky can be of a timid nature and likes a patient, caring approach in which she can develop & learn at her own pace, she has built an extremely strong bond with Rocky and for the time it is intended to keep them together.

Annie - “Armargos Other Orphan” ;)

annielfthead26-12-11

Annie arrived into our care on the 28th of May 2011 when she was only hours old due to her mother having died during her birth :(

Her mother was said to have been a 15h cob and father a 16h cob but of course there is no guarantee what her eventual size will be.  Like a lot of foals that are orphaned from such a young age as she was she is a slow developer growth-wise - not because she has a small appetite though, some days I truly wonder where she puts all she eats ;)

Obviously being hand reared she is well socialised but thankfully she is not as cheeky/bold as Rocky so you do not have to keep one eye looking behind you at all times when she is around :)

Annie would do well in a home with a maternal/paternal type of equine - what size they are does not really matter as she is well use to being around everything from a cat to a 16h horse.  The only immediate thing she would need training for would be electric fencing as she has never been near any to know the sting they can give. (as is the case for the rehoming of any of our equines barbed wire is a big ‘no way’)
