Resident Sheep

Shelly & Shirley

shellysheared12-4-09

Shelly and Shirley arrived to us in April 2008 as orphans via Cottage Rescue in Co Tipperary.

It did not take them long to find their feet here and they soon knew what weak spots were in

the field’s fences :o)) Obviously they have grown an awful lot since they first came to us and it

has been a year of love and laughter watching them go from defenseless little lambs to

reaching their first birthdays and gaining the respect of all the other animals here due to them

discovering Shelly had a lethal fast head-butting technique should they try to ‘invade her space’.

Always the more forward of the two girls it was inevitable really that Shirley would be

‘the leader of the pack’ and whatever mischief Shelly could find to get up to you can be sure

that it would be something she had previously seen Shirley do :o))

The two girls have caused a lot of changes in habits since they grew-up ... sitting outside to

have a quiet cup of tea can be a health hazard if the tea is not placed on a very secure surface,

all feed bins (even the dog feed bins) have to be kept locked in a shed as the girls think they have

rights to all the feed on the premises, do not leave car doors open or you could end up with

an unexpected passenger or two, before closing the kitchen door after the dogs have been out for

a run be sure the two girls are not asleep on a dogs bed, etc, etc. Putting Shelly and Shirley into

a field and shutting the gate is more often than not a waste of time, they are far too nosy and

attention seeking to behave like ‘normal’ farm sheep

Melody

Melody arrived to us in April 2009, she is a jacob lamb and was orphaned at 2wks of age

due to her mother dying unexpectedly. She came from the same farm as Shelly and Shirley and

so also did a stint at Cottage Rescue prior to making her way to us. Melody was christened

in a sarcastic form ... her baa’ing was extremely un-melodious when she was awaiting her bottle ;o)))

Melody has long since left her bottle drinking days and is now hanging around with

Shelly & Shirley since they accepted her into their team after she passed their fence

demolition tests !!! Shelly is very much Melody's playmate and the two of them are

regularly seen acting like two young spring lambs :o))
